Katie Ceekay

Katie Ceekay

Katie Ceekay (1990) is an artist from Dublin, Ireland. She currently lives and works in Groningen. In her work, Katie investigates how we as humans exist, live and move. She mainly looks at the capitalist system in which we live, and how we can counteract it. Therefore her work always starts with a critical conversation.

What do you think of when you hear the words public service? What can you think of outside of healthcare, education and enforcement? Do current public services meet our needs? What should a public service mean? And how can an artist facilitate this?

For the art and research project Complex Public Service, Katie is assisted by ten participants. For nine months straight they try to find an answer to the question: How can art act as a public service? The entire process is captured in a philosophical film by filmmaker Joost Wierenga.
